Hello,

My name is David Lyttle, and I established the LYTTLEALLEE website so that we all might have a look back at our roots, and see who got us here. The tree was later renamed the Lyttles of Russell Co.

My genealogy research is focused primarily on the Lyttle & Alley families, their descendents and ancestors. Homer Lyttle and Eleanor Alley are the starting point of reference and the tree grows in both directions from their union in Russell County Virginia. Thus far, I have been able to trace back about 8 generations from that family. I'm still working both in that direction and trying to move forward with the latest additions, marriages etc..

Please have a look around and feel free to forward any corrections/edits to my email address. Pictures are also welcome. I will try to master placing photos tied to info blocks on the tree.

Enjoy!    David

家族について

The best information, at present, indicates that the Lyttle name began as Little, in the British Isles. We're still trying to pin down the country or place of origin, but parallel DNA test of Littles in America do narrow that origin to the UK.

Our first know Little ancestor is Abraham - who came to the Virginia tidewater region as an indentured servant, around 1700. There is record of his release from indenture, and archival materials - Bibles, deeds, court house records etc., trace the westward migration of Abe and his sons and extended families. They basically followed a path along what is now the border between NC and VA, before there were any borders drawn. This is a time when Kentucky was the western-most county of Virginia - before it was made a separate territory (Daniel Boone period). The Lyttles were long hunters and fur traders and seemed to be constantly moving into new lands as the "sprawl" caught up with them.

My particular branch did settle in the western counties of Wise and Russell Co., VA. But other branches of the tree traveled on through SC, GA, AL, into TX, and OK - all of this before they were truely "states", All were still territories inhabited by the original Native Americans of the south.

家族歴の空白

Missing pieces of this puzzle include -

The identification of the true country/place of origin for Abe Little.

A real puzzle has been trying to connect one Archibald Little (b 1776), to this tree. Two Little descendants have tested DNA positive as having a common ancestor with me/us within the last 8-10 generations (250 years). But the common thread is yet to be found.
